In Argentina, the introduction of aloe commercial cultivation is recent, beginning at the end of 90´s. The main producing zones are in the province of Cordoba and Santa Fe. The main cultivated variety is the aloe saponaria, and to a lesser extent the aloe barbadensis miller and the aloe arborescens. Other producing provinces but with smaller volume are Chaco, Formosa, Misiones, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Tucumán and Buenos Aires. There are no other varieties of aloe in commercial plantations in Argentina.
Main cluster of the production of aloe in Argentina at present is the city of San Francisco, province of Cordoba. In its neighbourhood are located more than 300 producers, which an estimated of 600,000 plants cultivated in total, generating a direct and indirect employment for almost 1,200 people.
In that region also are the main companies of processing and industrialization of the aloe. In that cluster is found a strong concentration of producers, as well as infrastructure developed for the industry, counting with public and private organizations working in the matter.
Aloetrade estimates that for fiscal year 2006, a national stock of aloe plants is as follows: 800.000 aloe saponaria plants, 400.000 aloe vera plants and close to 90.000 aloe arborescens plants.
